Goods which could be used for capital punishment and torture

Regulation concerning trade in certain goods which could be used for capital punishment, torture or other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment is related to international obligations of Republic of Croatia and to the protection of human rights through regulations on trade in goods which could be used for capital punishment, and goods that could be used for torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment. In addition to promoting respect for human life and basic human rights, these rules should ensure that entities have no benefit from the trade that promotes or facilitates capital punishment policies or torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment and punishment.

Regulation on export and import of goods that can be used for capital punishment, torture or other cruel, inhuman ordegrading treatment or punishment prohibits the export and import of equipment that has no practical use except to carry out capital punishment or torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment. Includes, prescribed conditions for exports and imports of goods that is not used solely for torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment, but also for legitimate purposes such as law enforcement.

Regulation is in accordance with Council Regulation (EC) no. 1236/2005 on trade in certain goods which could be used to carry out the death penalty, torture or other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.

Regulation on export and import of goods that can be used for capital punishment, torture or other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment, entered into force on 16 December 2011 with publication in the Official Gazette.
